LA Public Golf Course Recommendation — DeBell Golf Club

LA Public Golf Course Recommendation — DeBell Golf Club Located in the hills of Burbank, DeBell Golf Club is a relatively short public golf course that plays more challenging than its yardage might suggest. What stood out to me the most was the combination of narrow fairways and significant elevation changes . At first glance, the shorter overall distance may make the course seem fairly easy, but the hilly terrain and tight layout make accuracy much more important than distance. At the same time, these features make DeBell quite fun to play. If you enjoy shorter courses that still require strategy and accurate shots , DeBell offers a different experience from the flatter and wider public courses around Los Angeles. 📍 Location & Course Information 📍 Location: 1500 E Walnut Ave, Burbank, CA 91501 — View on Google Maps ⛳ Course: 18 Holes 🏌️ Par: 71 📏 Distance: 5,608 yards (Blue Tee) 🏙️ Location: Burbank / Verdugo Mountains foothills 🏌️ Driving Range: Avai...

LA Public Golf Course Recommendation — Alhambra Golf Course

If you're looking for a shorter and more approachable public golf course in the Los Angeles area, Alhambra Golf Course is a great option.

Located in Alhambra, the course measures approximately 5,500 yards, making it relatively short for an 18-hole course. The shorter distance makes it especially enjoyable for beginner golfers, women golfers, or anyone who prefers a less demanding round.

Another advantage is the relatively affordable green fee. For the price, I also find the overall course condition to be quite good.

One interesting feature of Alhambra is the difference between the front and back nine. The front nine is relatively flat and comfortable, while the back nine introduces more elevation changes and can feel noticeably more challenging.

Alhambra Golf Course is located east of Downtown Los Angeles and offers a full 18-hole experience without the length and difficulty of many larger courses.

⛳ Short and Approachable Course

One of the biggest advantages of Alhambra Golf Course is its shorter overall distance.

Although it's an 18-hole, Par 71 course, it measures only about 5,478 yards, making it considerably shorter than many other 18-hole public courses around Los Angeles.

You don't necessarily need a long drive to leave yourself with a manageable second shot, which makes the course particularly approachable for beginners and women golfers.

For more experienced golfers, the shorter distance can also make Alhambra a fun place to challenge yourself to shoot a lower score.

However, shorter doesn't necessarily mean every hole is easy. As you move into the back nine, elevation changes and hazards introduce a different kind of challenge.

1️⃣ Front Nine — Flat and Comfortable

The front nine is generally flat and relatively easy to navigate.

There aren't many significant elevation changes, making it easy to settle into your round without feeling overly challenged from the beginning.

For golfers who are still gaining experience on full-size courses, the front nine can feel particularly comfortable.

This approachable layout is one of the reasons I think Alhambra is a good course for newer golfers.

2️⃣ Back Nine — More Elevation and Challenge

The character of the course changes somewhat when you reach the back nine.

Compared with the front nine, there are more uphill and downhill shots, and the combination of elevation changes, bunkers, and hazards can make club selection more important.

Some holes can feel significantly more challenging than their distance might suggest.

This contrast is part of what makes Alhambra interesting: you can enjoy a relatively relaxed front nine and then face a little more strategy and challenge on the back nine.

🌿 Course Condition & Pace

I personally find the overall course condition at Alhambra to be quite good, especially considering its relatively affordable price.

Fairway Compass Course Condition: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

The fairways, greens, and surrounding areas are generally well maintained, and the course has a pleasant, park-like atmosphere with plenty of mature trees.

For a reasonably priced public golf course, I think the overall experience offers good value.

The pace of play is also generally good.

Of course, pace can vary depending on the day and time, particularly on busy weekends, but overall I find the pace comfortable for a public course.

🏌️‍♂️ Driving Range & Practice Facilities

Alhambra Golf Course also has a good selection of practice facilities.

There is a multi-level driving range equipped with Toptracer, allowing you to track shot distance and direction while practicing.

Putting, chipping, and bunker practice areas are also available, making it convenient to work on your short game or warm up before your tee time.

Even if you're not playing 18 holes, the practice facilities make Alhambra a useful place to visit for a practice session.

💰 Affordable Golf

Another major advantage of Alhambra Golf Course is its relatively affordable green fee.

Playing 18 holes regularly around Los Angeles can become expensive, so having a reasonably priced course that is also well maintained is a big plus.

For golfers who want a casual round, practice on a real course, or simply play more frequently without spending too much, Alhambra offers good value.

Since rates can change depending on the day and tee time, I recommend checking the current price when making your reservation rather than relying on a specific rate.

💡 Tee Time Reservations

Tee times can be booked online through the official Alhambra Golf Course website.

👉 Book a Tee Time at Alhambra Golf Course

Tee times are currently available to book up to 7 days in advance, and the course recommends booking directly online for its lowest available rates.

If you're planning to play during a popular weekend time, it's a good idea to reserve in advance.

⭐ Fairway Compass Highlights

Alhambra Golf Course's biggest strengths are its shorter distance, affordable price, and approachable layout.

The relatively flat front nine makes it comfortable for newer golfers, while the elevation changes on the back nine add enough challenge to keep the round interesting.

🏌️ What to Bring

Southern California sunshine can be strong, and you'll be outdoors for several hours during a round. A sun-protection face cover can be useful, especially on sunny days when you want some extra protection for your face and neck.

Since there is no caddie, having a rangefinder can also be very helpful for checking distances and planning your shots.
