LA Public Golf Course Recommendation — Los Verdes Golf Course
If you're looking for a public golf course in Los Angeles with beautiful ocean views, Los Verdes Golf Course is definitely worth considering.
Located along the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Verdes offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and, on clear days, Catalina Island.
It's one of the more popular public golf courses in the LA area, especially for golfers who want to enjoy Southern California's coastal scenery while playing a round.
The popularity does come with a few downsides, though. Getting a good tee time can be difficult, and pace of play can sometimes be slow when the course is busy.

Los Verdes Golf Course sits high above the coastline on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, with beautiful Pacific Ocean views throughout the course.
đ Beautiful Ocean Views
The biggest reason I recommend Los Verdes Golf Course is definitely the ocean view.
Many holes offer beautiful views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and on clear days you may even be able to see Catalina Island in the distance.
Playing from the elevated areas of the course while looking out over the ocean is one of the experiences that makes Los Verdes unique among LA public golf courses.
Like Trump National Los Angeles, Los Verdes gives you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Palos Verdes coastline, but in a more traditional public golf course setting.
If enjoying the scenery is an important part of your golf experience, Los Verdes is a course worth playing at least once.
⛳ The Course
Los Verdes is an 18-hole, Par 71 public golf course designed by William Bell.
The course measures approximately 6,600 yards and, unlike the relatively flat layout at Woodley Lakes, Los Verdes has more elevation changes throughout the course.
The coastal wind can also become a factor, adding another challenge to certain holes.
For me, however, the most memorable part of playing Los Verdes isn't necessarily the difficulty of the course — it's the ocean scenery you get to enjoy throughout the round.
đż Course Condition & Pace
I would rate the overall course condition at Los Verdes as average for an LA public golf course.
Fairway Compass Course Condition: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
The course is certainly enjoyable to play, but considering its beautiful location and ocean views, I wouldn't consider the overall course condition to be one of its strongest features.
Another area that can be a little challenging at Los Verdes is pace of play.
Fairway Compass Pace: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Los Verdes is an extremely popular public golf course, so rounds can sometimes slow down during busy periods.
If a fast round is important to you, this may be a downside. But if you don't mind taking your time and enjoying the ocean views along the way, the slower pace may be easier to overlook.
đ️♂️ Driving Range & Practice Facilities
Los Verdes has a driving range where you can warm up before your round.
The driving range has two levels, and there are also putting greens and short-game practice areas where you can get ready before your tee time.
The practice facilities make it convenient to warm up and work on different parts of your game before heading out onto the course.
đĄ Tee Time Reservations — Plan Ahead
One thing to know before playing Los Verdes is that getting a desirable tee time can be difficult.
Los Verdes is one of the busiest public golf courses in the area, especially on weekends and during popular morning hours.
Tee times currently become available 8 days in advance at 8:00 PM through the official reservation system.
đ Book a Tee Time at Los Verdes
If you're hoping to play on a weekend morning or another popular time, I recommend being ready when reservations open.
⭐ Fairway Compass Highlights
The biggest reason to play Los Verdes Golf Course is simple: the Pacific Ocean views.
I wouldn't give the course its highest marks for course condition or pace of play, and getting a good tee time can be frustrating. But the location and scenery help make up for those drawbacks.

đ️ What to Bring
Southern California sunshine can be strong, and you'll be outdoors for several hours during a round. A sun-protection face cover can be useful, especially on sunny days when you want some extra protection for your face and neck.

Since there is no caddie, having a rangefinder can also be very helpful for checking distances and planning your shots.
